Visa Information
This page concerns International Students (non‑EU/EEA) wishing to attend the MSc. The following information is provided subject to change.
An international non‑EU student who wants to study in Greece must understand three main areas: visa requirements, residence permits, and rights/limitations during and after studies.
🎓 1. Basic Requirements Before Applying for a Visa
To be eligible for a Greek student visa, a non‑EU/EEA student must:
- Have an official acceptance letter from a recognized Greek higher education institution.
- Attend a specific course of study (Bachelor, Master, PhD, or certified program).
- Show sufficient financial resources to cover living expenses.
- Have paid any required tuition/enrollment fees.
- Hold a valid passport, typically valid for at least 3 months beyond planned departure.

🛂 2. Visa Types for Students
Greece issues a Visa type D (National Long‑Stay Visa) for degree programs or any study exceeding 90 days. This is the standard student visa.
📝 3. How to Apply for a Greek Student Visa
- Secure admission from a Greek university.

- Acceptance letter
- Proof of financial means
- Passport
- Proof of tuition payment

🏛️ 4. Residence Permit After Arrival in Greece
Once in Greece, you must apply for a Residence Permit for Studies.
Key facts:
- Valid for 1 year, renewable annually.
- You may request a multi‑year permit equal to the duration of your studies, but you must submit extra documentation (e.g., certificate of total study duration).
- Fee: €150 per year.

- Updated transcript
Failure to do so results in permit withdrawal.

💼 5. Work Rights During Studies
- Non‑EU students may work part‑time while studying in Greece.
🎓 6. After Graduation
- You cannot change your status from student to another type of residence permit while in Greece.
- To work or stay for another purpose, you must return to your home country and apply for a new visa type.
🚫 7. If Your Visa Is Refused
- You have the right to appeal against the consular decision.
🌍 8. Mobility Within the EU
- With a valid Schengen long‑stay visa or residence permit, you may travel to other Schengen countries for up to 3 months per 6‑month period.
